Columbus Hilltop Veritas Community Service

Snow Day In Columbus!

A winter storm dumped about four inches of snow on Columbus Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Schools and offices closed all over Central Ohio.

While many people were curled up inside, staying warm, some of our guys were out helping their neighborhood.

These men from Phases 2 and 3 in Columbus went out to help shovel snow in the Hilltop neighborhood.

Our ministry is about more than just recovery. It's also about service - serving God and also our fellow man.

These guys are a great example of that mission.

New Time For Men's Orientation

Starting on Monday, February 19, 2018 our Men's Orientation will move to 3:30 pm. That will also be the starting time for every Monday after that as well.

Men's Orientation will still be located at Veritas Community Church-West at 12 S. Terrace Ave., Columbus, OH.

The Orientation scheduled for Monday, February 12, 2018 will start at 10:00 am.

This is just the first part of a big and very exciting series of changes we're going to be announcing in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!

You can learn more about Orientation for The Refuge Men's Ministry, including what you can expect and what you should bring with you, on our Men's Ministry page.

Phase Up!

Our weekly Phase Up is a time for both reflection and celebration.

Men transitioning from one Phase of our ministry to another share their experiences with the men behind them, and then in turn have the chance to speak with the men ahead of them about what to expect when they arrive at their new home.

Congratulations to these seven men who phased up from Phase One to Phase Two this week: David Mayle, Corey Cipriano, Keith Barrett, Gerald Brown, Lucas Fairchild, Seth Johnson, and Lane Lynch.

Super Bowl Sunday In Columbus

Sunday is always a special day for the men in our Ministry.

It's a chance to attend church, an opportunity for home visits for those in later phases, and a chance to quietly relax and reflect before returning to work the following morning.

Tonight, it was also a chance to watch some football.

These are some of the guys from Phase Two and Phase Three gathering together to watch the Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles.

If you've come through our Ministry in the past and think this looks familiar, it's our home on Sullivant.

Hilltop Service Day

A Day Of Service On The Hilltop

After a long, hard work week, most people want to take the weekend to kick off their shoes and relax.

That definitely wasn't what the men in Columbus did today.

A total of 22 guys from our ministry were out in the cold cleaning up trash along Sullivant Avenue. They went from South Yale Ave. in Franklinton all the way to South Hague on the Hilltop.

They picked up a total of 41 bags of trash, making the neighborhood where they live a better place for everyone.

We are so proud of all of these guys!

Special thanks to Dan Funk from Phase 4 for the pictures.

Public service day

A Day Of Service

In our ministry, work is worship.

The men of Phase One completed a day of service today at Living Water Worship Center.

Even more exciting, seven of them are about to phase up next week.

Check out the video below with some highlights from the day.

Project 614 Princeton Kitchen Cabinets

We Need Kitchen Cabinets!

Installing Kitchen Cabinets Project 614 Princeton House The kitchen cabinets are going in this week at our Project 614 home on Princeton. It's incredible to see how quickly that house is progressing now.

If you have cabinets like these that you are willing to donate, we would love to get them for our next home on Wheatland.

That is our third Project 614 home, and needs to be pretty much totally gutted.

If you have kitchen cabinets you can donate, please contact Austin Hill, our Columbus Director or call 614-991-0131.

As always, thank you for you love, prayers, and support for The Refuge.

Inside Phase One

We get more requests for photos from inside Phase One than any other portion of our Ministry.

Why? The first 30 days can be tough for the men, but it's also difficult for their parents, siblings, spouses, and everyone else back at home who aren't talking to their guy.

If you don't see your guy in these pictures, don't worry. We don't always get every person into a photo.

Here's a look at what's happening down in Vinton County today.

These are some of the new brothers entering Phase One this week.

It's always so inspiring to see the men who were already here helping those who are just entering the ministry.

Dinner Time In Vinton County

This is a glimpse inside a typical day at our Phase One home down in Vinton County.

The men sit down to eat dinner together as a family.

Both the food and the fellowship are true blessings.

Making The Most Of A Beautiful Weekend

It's not often that you can work comfortably outside in January in Ohio while wearing short sleeves.

The brothers of Phase One took advantage of the beautiful weather to have a great work day this weekend.

It's always amazing how much a motivated group of guys can do!
